The Francis Richard is a stunning 4 star 2 bedroom Lodge in a converted Courtyard building here at Belan, which was formerly a cattle fodder and equipment store. It is named after Francis Richard Shackleton, from nearby Kilkea, Brother of Artic Explorer Ernest and Nephew of Corn Miller Ebenezer, who operated the farm here at Belan, and he is strongly rumoured to have been involved in the mysterious disappearance of the Irish Crown Jewels. Inside is a hallway with a toilet and bathroom, leading to the stairs and to a large kitchen/dining area. Upstairs is a landing and bathroom and a spacious bedroom with a double and a single bed. The master bedroom opens onto a verandah, overlooking a large garden area and leading to a stairwell to the Courtyard. This Lodge has been decorated to a very high standard and must be seen to be fully appreciated.
